NEUTRAL MILK HOTEL

Student - This assignment was to create a poster advertising a show for a band of our choice. I chose the band Neutral Milk Hotel and created a fictional tour for them. The image is a direct reference to one of their song lyrics, "now she's a little boy in Spain playing pianos filled with flames." 18"x24" 2 color screenprint.

SCOUTS HONOR

Client - Scouts Honor's songs are full of sing-alongs. One of their most popular sing-along lyrics is “I’m going drinking” which became the inspiration for this poster. The progression of the bottle starting full and ending empty also works as a perfect metaphor for the life of this band that was to be no more. 19"x25" 2 color screenprint.

TOP GUN

Student - This assignment was to create a movie poster using a four-word film review as the headline for the poster. The focus of the poster was to be the typographic treatment of the review rather than imagery. I chose Top Gun and the review was “Goose forgot to duck” which references a character's death from failing to eject properly from a jet. I wanted the poster to have a damaged and falling feel, to play with what happened to the jet in the movie. I was also able to sneak in some imagery -a jet on a nosedive, and a falling pilot. 11"x17" 2 color screenprint.

THE SERPENT SON

Client - Based on a Serpent Son song title about Cinderella and references they make to the devil, I thought it would be interesting to create a “Devil Cinderella” for the imagery. 18"x24" 2 color screenprint.

THE FORECAST

Client - The Forecast is a band from the Midwest who is described as having a “Midwest” sound. A tornado is also associated with the Midwest and works as a visual pun with the band's name. 18"x24" 1 color screenprint.

THE WUFFS

Client -This show was to be billed as “An Evening with The Wuffs” and was taking place at a small cafe. I felt both of these factors would lead towards an intimate show between the band and audience. The cropped image of a woman in an evening dress, the type treatment, and the overall composition creates a classy feel which helps bring across both ideas of "evening" and "intimate." 18"x24" 2 color screenprint.

THE AMAZING KILL-O-WATTS

Client - The Amazing Kill-O-Watts consisted of fun people playing fun music. So I created a fun poster. 11"x17"

NEW YORK FILM FESTIVAL

Student - This assignment was to create a poster advertising the New York film festival. For imagery we were to combine two ideas into a single image. The two ideas were "New York" and "film festival". I went with the combination of a film camera and Milton Glaser's iconic "I Love New York" logo. 11"x17"
